I initially tried the oven-roasted method, which is a bit time-consuming, but ended up being more tasty, and you get all the flavors of a traditional oven-roasted turkey. A bone-in turkey is the most flavorful way to prepare a turkey breast and the method I describe here will allow you to bone it on Thanksgiving, too.

This preparation begins with a bone-in turkey breast, which is then finished in the oven. The breast is rubbed with a paste of onion, garlic, paprika, and salt, then placed on the rack of a roasting pan. The breast is then roasted at 350 degrees F for 60 minutes, after which it is transferred to a 425 degrees F oven for another 20 minutes. The breast is then finished with a pan sauce of cream, butter, and mushrooms.

Only your spouse and pets can sometimes gather around the dinner table to celebrate the holidays. We always have only the two of us for Thanksgiving, which is why we prepared this Turkey Breast Roasted in the Oven dish. We won’t be able to finish a twelve-pound turkey, but that doesn’t mean we can’t partake in the delicacy.

Turkey Breast Roasted in the Oven with Gravy

Oven Roasted Turkey Breast

Tender turkey breast and low-carb gravy are used in this turkey supper for two.

1 hour and 20 minutes total

4 person servings

Time to cook: 1 hour and 10 minutes


  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Separate the skin from the breast of the turkey by patting it dry.

  • In a small bowl, combine the butter and seasonings; put the mixture beneath the skin and rub into the breast. Rub the mixture on top of the skin if desired. 

  • In a dutch oven/skillet that can be covered with a lid, place the seasoned turkey.

  • Cook for 45 minutes with the lid on.

  • Remove the lid and cook the roast for another 15-20 minutes.

  • Remove the turkey from the oven when it’s done (internal temperature 165°F), and set it aside to rest while you make the gravy.

  • Heat the turkey skillet over medium heat on the stovetop. Toss in the chopped shallot with the turkey drippings and mix well. 

  • Add the xanthan gum and chicken broth once the shallots are soft. Bring the gravy to a simmer, stirring constantly, until it has thickened.

  • Remove the turkey breast from the oven and serve with the gravy. Enjoy!
