Philly Cheesesteak Keto Roll

But, how effective is carb restriction, and can it be used to effectively control a person’s weight–especially when it’s combined with exercise?

We have lots of great recipes for ketosis….. But every now and then we get a call from the deepest, darkest corner of our collective bowels to which no existing recipe can answer. Keto Roll: History of origins

Believe it or not, but the idea for this recipe came from my desire to make a fresh Thai spring roll. Yes, you’re right, a Thai spring roll is a fresh, healthy ball of vegetables and tofu wrapped in rice paper. So how did she become the roasted giant you’re reading about now? It all started with me thinking about what I could replace the rice paper with. There are low-carb coconut wraps, but I didn’t want to pay $12 and wait 2 days for Amazon to deliver them. …. This keto sandwich had to be done immediately. I open the fridge and see that I have 2 options: 1) zucchini 2) roast beef slices. For fear of losing my loyalty card, I choose roast beef.

Philly Cheesesteak Keto Roll?

I was never much of a fan of Philly cheesesteaks, but since I live in Philly, I have to try to fit in or I risk being insulted by the locals. It is true what they say about brotherly love, my friends. So I decided to play a prank on the Philly Cheesesteak. Since I had already chosen roast beef as a substitute for rice paper (laugh with me at the absurdity), it worked very well. We fill it with 3 simple ingredients. Green peppers, onions and provolone cheese (to please the purists who will go wild if you don’t use Cheese Whiz!)

This is the hardest part. After cooking the peppers and onions for a few minutes (you can leave them raw if you want), place 3 to 5 slices of roast beef on plastic wrap. If your slices are thicker and have no holes, you probably have enough for 3, if not add a few more. Place 2 or 3 slices of provolone cheese on the roast beef, followed by the bell pepper and onions. Here we go. It’s easier than it looks, just lift the cling film with one hand and slide the ingredients in with the other. Conventional lifting and carrying.

Perfect breadcrumbs

Keto breadcrumbs are a very good or bad option. I’ve seen enough coconut flour floating mournfully around my cast iron skillet to last a few lifetimes, but success is 99% failure, and success I’ve finally achieved! There is only one spread that this wild 4 tonne beast, which wants to present itself as a dish, can bear:.

Pig rinds and commitments

We use the classic breadcrumbing technique at three stations. The third station is the only one that needs explanation. It is composed of pork rind and parmesan and will form the outer layer. Chop 5-10 pork rinds and 2 tablespoons of parmesan cheese. I used a food processor, but you can also chop them by hand if you don’t have one. Just put them in a Ziploc baggie and give them to your little ones for a few minutes. Set up the stations as follows:

left: Pork rind, medium rare: Egg (beaten) Right : Coconut flour and curry powder

Bread and potatoes

It’s time to put the breadcrumbs on top. First the coconut flour, then the egg, then the magic powder. I just made that term up, but I’m sure you know what I mean. Professional advice: Dip the roast beef in the coconut flour. If the flour is a little sticky, it doesn’t matter, the important thing is that it is dry so the egg will stick.

  • Place the roast beef, bottom side down, on a layer of cling film. Lay the different parts lightly on top of each other.
  • Place provolone cheese on roast beef, then bell pepper and onions on top of cheese.
  • Now form the roll. Lift the cling film with one hand, making sure none of the ingredients fall out. If you keep lifting the cling film, it should form a nice roll.


  • Put 2 ounces (about 8 pork skins) in a food processor with 2 tablespoons of Parmesan cheese. Mix until you have a fine powder. You can do it by hand by putting the ingredients in a Ziploc bag and smashing them with a rolling pin or a wine bottle.
  • Place 3 Stations. 1) coconut flour, 2) beaten egg, 3) pork rind mixture. Dip the bun in the order 1-2-3 each time. Let the bun rest for 1-2 minutes to allow the breadcrumbs to set in the bun.
  • Heat a non-stick pan over medium-high heat. Add 2 tablespoons of coconut oil and let it come to temperature.
  • Place the roll in the mould. Using tongs, fry the ends of the rolls for 1 minute on each side. This creates a seal that prevents the ingredients from leaking.
  • 1 A8 Bake for 2 to 3 minutes on each side. Turn 4 times, for a total cooking time of 10-12 minutes.
