What Is the Origin of the Name Deviled Eggs?
The deviled egg, believe it or not, can be traced all the way back to ancient Rome. As a first dish, they were often served as hard boiled eggs with a spicy sauce. The more typical deviled eggs were not invented until the 15th century, when people started mashing egg yolks to make a filling for the egg.
The term “deviled” didn’t catch on until the 18th and 19th centuries, when hot dishes were referred to as such. Because spicy mustard was often used, they soon became a deviled dish.
Recipe for Deviled Eggs
There are a few minor modifications on traditional deviled eggs, but for the most part, the recipe is fairly straightforward. Take a hard cooked egg, peel it, cut it in half lengthwise, then fill it with a mayonnaise mustard yolk combination to create deviled eggs.
Pickle relish, dijon mustard, vinegar, and, of course, a sprinkling of paprika are all typical components in traditional deviled eggs. Some people recommend that you try smoked paprika.

I selected bacon and chives for these keto deviled eggs because I had both in the fridge and thought the taste profiles would complement each other well. Who doesn’t enjoy deviled eggs with bacon, after all? The greatest thing is that you may use any two, three, or four ingredients you choose, or whatever you have in the fridge. Because the yolk and mayonnaise tastes are so mild, anything you add will be the star of the show.
Maybe you don’t like deviled eggs, but believe me when I say that once the tastes are amplified, you won’t be able to stop eating them. Some of you may already know from viewing our films that Matt despises mayonnaise.
In fact, he first declined to try my keto deviled eggs, despite the fact that he never refuses a taste test. After some haggling, he agreed, and we were both shocked to discover how much he like them!
Recipe for Sriracha Deviled Eggs
This is the second in a series of deviled egg recipes. Why? Because I’m completely enamored with them, and you should be as well! What’s not to like about hard boiled eggs and mayonnaise? To boost them up a level, you may add any additional ingredient.
Remember how deviled eggs got their name? This is the recipe for wicked deviled eggs.
The greatest thing about this dish is how fast and simple it is to prepare. Hard boiled eggs, mayonnaise, Sriracha, and salt and pepper are all you need.
The most difficult thing is not eating them as you prepare them. Before they arrive to the event I’m taking them to, I always slip a few in. People are also amazed and enthusiastic about these keto deviled eggs, particularly when Sriracha is added.
Sriracha Sauce is an essential component of every kitchen. Shame on you if you don’t have any; if you do, we’d be wonderful pals. Topping any morning dish, burger, or even dipping my pig rinds in it, I always combine it with mayo.
It actually adds a lot of flavor and spice to this dish, so if you’re not afraid of a little heat, go ahead and use more than the recipe calls for!
Deviled Eggs with Curry

Curry powder is something we have on hand at all times. We even go out and purchase a new container before the old one runs empty. We like to use it in burgers, chicken, cauliflower, and other dishes. It elevates the taste of any dish by many levels!

Deviled Eggs with Avocado
Our Deviled Eggs with Avocado are the last dish in our keto deviled egg series! Because of its distinct uniqueness, which I will discuss more below, this dish is virtually self-contained. The following three items are often found in a keto-friendly home: eggs, avocado, and sour cream. And if your house is one of them, you can go to the kitchen right now and start preparing this delicious deviled eggs dish!
Mayonnaise-Free Deviled Eggs
This dish differs from the other two keto deviled egg recipes in that it does not utilize the usual mayonnaise mustard yolk combination. Instead, sour cream is used to provide the creamy, fatty texture of traditional deviled egg filling. With this dish, omitting the mayo isn’t a huge deal since it’s still rich in fat and keto friendly! For good reason, we always keep sour cream and avocados on hand.
What we love about keto deviled eggs in general is how low carb they are as an appetizer. They are appropriate at any occasion, formal or informal, are simple to prepare, and, let’s face it, are tasty.
You may even significantly alter them by adding a spice or sauce, like we did with our Curry Deviled Eggs and Sriracha Deviled Eggs! The most important thing to remember while creating them is to have fun with them. Adding additional components can’t possibly go wrong!
Deviled Eggs on a Keto Diet Recipe
Until recently, making keto deviled eggs was a difficult job for me. The yolk combination, which makes this dish deviled, was the component I was most concerned about. How did you figure out how much of each item you needed? Why were the ratios different on each site? There were a lot of directions, but the technique wasn’t obvious.
I could never locate instructions that were simple to follow, so I avoided making them for fear of their failing. However, the reality about deviled eggs is that the proportions are entirely up to you!
Filling Egg Whites: A Step-by-Step Guide
Fill keto deviled eggs with this simple hack. But, in essence, all you have to do is scoop the egg yolk filling into a ziplock bag (piping bag), press it down to one of the corners, snip the piping bag’s tip, and pipe the mixture into egg whites.
We’ve never done it any other way, but cutting your eggs in half lengthwise is a good idea.
If you don’t have a piping bag or tips, this gives it a cleaner appearance! With these avocado deviled eggs, you get a lot of fat and taste in each mouthful, so give them a try!
How to Peel Hard Boiled Eggs With Ease
Making keto deviled eggs would be difficult if the eggs were difficult to peel. When it comes to creating keto deviled eggs, it’s really the most challenging step. If you follow these guidelines, however, your hard boiled eggs should peel much more easily.
I think it’s safe to assume that at some time in our lives, we’ve all struggled to peel a hard cooked egg. However, this does not always have to be the case. To assist with this job, there is a method to the madness.
First and foremost, whether the age of the egg makes a difference is a point of contention. Fresher eggs are thought to peel worse than older eggs, although this isn’t always the case. It seems that the cooking method has a larger influence.
Start with boiling water, don’t boil them too quickly, immediately plunge them into cold water or an ice bath, and attempt to peel them under running water.
What causes deviled eggs to get watery?
There are a few simple reasons why your keto deviled eggs may be sitting in water when you take them out to serve them. The most probable explanation is that the eggs were still wet from the peeling procedure.
Another possible cause is that they were placed in a storage container while still hot, causing condensation to form. Before putting your eggs in the fridge, be sure they’re at room temperature.
What Is the Best Way to Store Deviled Eggs?
It should go without saying that food safety is paramount, therefore deviled eggs should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They usually last for two to three days before degrading rapidly.
We make keto deviled eggs a few times a year and haven’t had any issues with them going bad, but since the yolks include perishable food components, it’s better not to keep them out at room temperature for more than 2 to 3 hours.
